18 Goals for 2018!

18 Goals for 2018!

Happy New Year, Catastrophes!

I keep telling everyone that I don’t do New Years Resolutions, but I’ve discovered that due to my blog every year I make some… so why break tradition? In the style of Andreea’s 26 before 27 post, I’m making 18 goals for 2018!

BUT WAIT.

At the beginning of 2017 I wrote a post called A New Year, A New Leaf. Let’s see how well I did first…

Be consistent with blogging, booktube and bookstagram. ‘My goal is to be posting on my blog consistently.’ I achieved and failed this at the same time. I got way more consistent with my booktube videos, and slacked on my blog and bookstagram toward the second half of the year. But I had a lot going on.

Bball for life. ‘My aim is to practice in the summer and try to make the team in uni.’ Major fail. Didn’t achieve either of those, but let’s move on and not dwell on that…

Yoga and Clean eating. ‘I hope to keep it up in 2017.’ Achieved and achieved. Whoop whoop!

Read all my physical books. ‘No, this is not a realistic goal. I’m still gonna try though.’ Failed. I can tell I’ve changed this year because I would never set an unachievable goal like this anymore! I even knew it was going to flop when I set it. So this was a ridiculous one…

Graduate. ‘This semi-includes my goal of actually going to university. Which means moving back to England.’ Achieved! I graduated, went to my top university of choice and now live in England. Yay!

Faith. ‘Make more time for God.’ Achieved! I’ve found a nice church and also done more active work within the church and charity work.

SO NOW: It’s time for me to set 18 new goals:

Finish my poetry collection. I’ve been working on a poetry collection in 2017 which is about black lives matter, and black history and culture. I’m hoping to finish this year.

Edit all of my novel. I wrote a novel in completion a while back. It’s the book I would ideally like to publish as my debut novel if I do ever publish, and I started editing it last year. I’m hoping to do the final round of edits in the coming year.

Do 12 nail art designs. I really neglect my nail art. I’m hoping to at least do one design every month.

Make 12 speed up nail art videos. I love the final look of a speed up nail art video, even though they are my least viewed videos on youtube and they are the ultimate pain to video. But, seeing as I love the outcome so much I’m going to be making them regardless.

Try 12 new recipes. I love trying new recipes but because I share a kitchen with 12 other people at university, it has made me a lot less experimental. I’m going to try to find my way back to it again. One a month? Or maybe more in the summer.

Try to make 2 desserts. As much as I love cooking, I can’t bake or make desserts. Going to try and do something new this year!

Get into those splits! I’ve been working on my splits for a long time now, and I am so close. I want to make it all the way.

Get into that handstand! Another yoga pose I have been working on for a long time. I’m hoping that I can hold it without a wall and for longer by the end of 2018.

Keep on top of my reading for university. I’m trying to balance book blogging reading and university reading. It’s going well so far, but I hope to keep it up in 2018.

Start my assignments earlier. It’s not like I’m cramming, but I don’t cram well and with the way I’ve been starting my assignments, I’m coming close to the cramming time! Need to start my assignments earlier.

Go to Ireland. I’ve been saving for this, and I hope it will be within my budget.

Go back to Spain. I miss the kids I au paired for. I miss the country, the hiking the everything. I can’t wait to go back and work again, and I’m also hoping I’ll be able to do that.

Reach 1000 Youtube Subscribers. I find it hard to set this goal because it doesn’t rely entirely on me and what I do. But I’m trying to grow my accounts, so the goal is there.

Improve the quality of my videos. I’m working on equipment for that, to improve the lighting and I’ve worked on editing. Hoping the quality continues to improve.

Reach 250 email subscribers. I’ve always been promoting all types of following for my blog excepting the email subscriber list. I’m working on this.

Post on my blog weekly. I slacked on my posting during the second half of 2017. Time to catch up on my overdue reviews and all the posts I’ve had the content for but haven’t written about.

Read at least 6 books a month. Ideally it’s 100 a year but I’m aiming for reasonable goals. I try to keep a minimum of 6 a month so let’s stick with that!

Read more physical books than ebooks. I think this will be easy with my university course books included in the goal, so let’s hope for that! I need to make a bit more of a dent in my physical TBR.

Olivia’s Question: Do you set New Years of resolutions? If not, do you have any short-term goals to share?

  • Well, you have a lot to be proud of from 2017, even if you didn’t meet all your goals (let’s be honest, “read my entire physical TBR” is always a bit of a reach, haha!). Your goals for this year sound really great – I wish you all the best on your projects, and I’m going to need pictures of your trip to Ireland. 😀

    • Yes I am happy with last years outcome! Oh, and that goal was so unattainable that I cannot even believe I set it >.> The Ireland itenerary is being discussed as I am writing 😀 Pictures shall definitely appear 😉

  • I can’t wait to see you nail art videos! It’ll be so artistic. You know me…I love creative outlets. When I make one of my calligraphy videos, I always make sure my nails are presentable. Which reminds me, I need to do my nails soon. Haha.

    • I hope to be able to keep up with them! It’s so much easier to do my nails without making a video but I enjoy making them in the end, so I want to do it more. Hope you got your nails done 😉 They always look so good in your calligraphy videos.

  • Liv, these are actually some really good goals! I literally screamed ” YASSS ” when you mentioned faith. This is also something I want to strengthen this year! Consistently blogging this year is definitely high on my goal list. I feel as though I spent so much time building my blog, and I’ve made so many great friends and connections that it would be a shame to allow it to go to waste. Hopefully we both can stick with it! I would say I want to read all of my physical books this year, but I know for sure that’s definitely NOT going to happen. I’m such a moody reader, so most of the time I want something new, which of course causes my books to pile up, but hey, the more the merrier. I’m glad to see you again, and good luck with your goals, you’ll accomplish the hell out them girl!

    • I am glad I’m not the only one who mentioned faith and thought about it! I hope you manage to keep up with blogging as well <3 Your blog will always be there whenever you're ready to get back to it, and don't worry – we will be too. Couldn't forget about someone as wonderful as you.

It's too much to read all the physical books! But hey, it's always nice to have a selection and options to suit the changing moods. Hehe :3 Thanks Tika!

  • Congratulations with graduating and getting into your dream uni!!! <3

We have the same goals when it comes to the splits (I can actually do a right split, but since I stopped cheerleading training my flexibility has lowered IMMENSELY, so I want to maintain that and hopefully learn the left split), and posting weekly. I hope we both achieve these, lovely! <3

    – Aimee @ Aimee, Always

    • Thank you, Aimee!

I hope you can get into splits this year as well! It’s so funny that learning it on the other side is a new thing entirely and challenging in a different way as well. I’d be happy just to get into the splits on one side though 😉

Looking forward to seeing those weekly posts this year x

    • I’m gonna be working on that resolution during the second half of the year but I will definitely share when I get to it! 🙂

  • Wow, I’m really impressed by your goals and what you achieved in 2017!

You have a poetry collection and a novel? I’d really, really like to read the final version of both once you’re done!

You’ve got this! You can do all of your goals for 2018. Good luck! 😊❤️

    • Thanks Shruti! I was kind of surprised I achieved them because I didn’t really keep track of them throughout the year >.>
I’ll let you know when the final versions are ready! Thank you 🙂

  • Yay, so glad to hear you did so well with your goals last year! I mean, even if some of them were fails, it just wasn’t realistic that you’d be able to get them all done – you’d need to have superpowers! So don’t be too hard on yourself 🙂
I wish you the best of luck with 2018 and may you get to accomplish all of items on your list, Olivia <3

    • It truly wasn’t realistic goal setting when it came to last year so I am happier with the goals I set this year, and the ones I did manage to complete! Thanks Sophie <3

  • Those are some great goals! I have the 12 new recipes one too! I have been doing one new recipe a month for the past few years – tried more than 12 both years with that. Some of those were dessert recipes too, and if you ever want to share recipes, let me know!

    • It’s never been something that makes me nervous but I understand how it can be! Try thinking of the camera as your friend, and remember that you can delete anything footage you don’t like (if you want to give it a try! 😉 )

  • Wow amazing post! Loved your 2018 resolutions. Inhope you can complete them and acheive better as you have done in 2017.

And you are writing a poetry collection? That’s amazing. I would definitely like to read it someday. I love poetry 😊

And all the best for all your novel editing work. I hope you complete it soon 😊

    • Thank you! I hope I can achieve them. If my poetry collection is complete, I would definitely let you know. Thank you x

  • Hi! 🙂 The Beast Animation is soooo cute, I think I’m in love with it!
And last year you did really good! Some of your achievement were pretty big, so congratulations!
And good luck with your new resolutions!

  • Congratulations on making almost all of your goals last year and yay on graduating! <3 <3
Best of luck for editing – I also really want to edit my WIP this year, but… it is a struggle, as it is my first time editing, ever, ahah. But I do want to make this story better 🙂 I also hope you'll get to go to Ireland, it is such a gorgeous country, I love it there SO much <3

    • Thanks Marie!

Editing is a real writers struggle but WE CAN DO IT. It looks like you’ve done brilliant on your starting progress this year so far as well.

*crosses fingers on being able to make it to Ireland.*

  • Splits! Never in my life 🙂 but I was born with shorter hamstrings (to do with a back condition) so at least I have an excuse xD I am very impressed though! I hope you can do it 🙂

250 is kind of a lofty goal xD nobody ever follows on email. I’ve only ever had like 40-50 email subs and I’ve given up on them xD

Best of luck with your goals 🙂

    • Splits are evading me at the moment, but there is still more than enough of the year left so fingers crossed!
250 is a high goal. Not sure I am going to achieve it after checking back on this list for February. I’m at 190 so far but 60 is still a lot DD:

      Thank you Evelina x

  • Ooh Olivia your poetry collection sounds wonderful! I hope you get to finish it this year, as well as the edits for your novel. I’m hoping to write a full novel this year, but I say that every year, so at the very least I’m hoping to write more. I’ve also been having to balance my own reading and university reading, and I know it can be tough. I hope that continues to go smoothly for you! I hope you get to your 100 book goal or at least read 6 books a month.

Good luck with your goals, and I hope you have a splendid 2018 <3

    • So far the poetry collection progress is looking promising, and hopefully afterward I will be able to get to my novel. I really hope you will be able to write more as well! It’s hard to find the balance when it comes to reading, but we can do it if we try and plan.

Wishing you a brilliant 2018 as well x

  • Happy New Year! I think you did great in 2017 and I love the goals that you set for 2018. I am sure that you will do a great job with all of them.

  • I usually do set goals for myself as a writer/blogger. I don’t do as much at the start of the new year in other areas of my life.

I like that you went through your goals for last year first. You did an awesome job on the goals that seemed to matter the most! I love that you have grown and feel that your goals are more realistic now.

Wishing you the best of luck with your poetry collection and your finished book. Here is hoping that 2018 is a happy and healthy one for you. Good luck with all your goals!

    • Setting goals throughout the year and along the way a pretty good way to do things as well.

I’m more happy with realistic goals but I am grateful for what I was able to achieve in the end.

Thank you! Hoping I can get a lot of writing done 😀

  • Wow! You accomplished so many of your goals. *applause, applause* I admire people who do clean eating. I have actually been to Ireland (it’s beautiful) and I would love to visit Spain someday. I hope you get to visit both. Good luck with all your 2018 goals.

    • Thank you! Ooh, if you have any top places to visit in Ireland you have to let me know! I hope you get to go to Spain someday as well. It’s truly a lovely country and so beautiful too.

  • Its my goal tooooo to be consistent with blogging and instagram! I’ll have to balance everything out since I’m starting university this year! 🙂 Plus clean eating IS a must!!! ♡
    Haniya
    booknauthors.blogspot.com

    • It might be hard to find that balance at first but I am sure you can manage it! I hope your start to university goes well and that you’ll enjoy it ^.^

    • Ebooks are just so easy to race through! But I hope you can achieve reading more physical books than ebooks too 😉

  • I’m terrible at sticking with New Year resolutions so I don’t set them anymore! You’ve done so well overall with your goals this year though and it looks as though 2018 is going to be massively busy for you! I’d love to read your poetry collection

Blogging tomorrow about my new reading challenges for 2018 🙂

    • If you don’t keep up with them that makes sense! Short term goals work better for a lot of people. I saw the post with all your reading challenges and I hope you can keep up with them all (knowing you, you will :D)

If my collection ever gets shared, I will definitely let you know. x

  • Aw, so glad you are doing this and I hope you will accomplish them all!

Also, you did pretty good last year in spite of some fail and one big unrealistic goal – I know I couldn’t achieve that unless I donate all the books that I own and have not read.

I am not sure I set NY resolutions. I just make a list with things that I would like to work on this year, but I do have a blogging resolution this year – to schedule posts in advance!

    Happy New Year!

    • Yup, that goal was totally ridiculous and unattainable. I like to think I am a bit more sensible when it comes to my goals now xD I like that you have updates on your list… maybe I will do an update with my resolutions a quarter of the way into the year and see how I am keeping on track too.

  • You did great with your 2017 goals! Not every single one, but that’s ok, you got most of them!

A poetry collection, that sounds awesome 🙂 And these all sound like doable goals! That’s funny, I pretty much can’t cook, but I’ve always been able to bake decently with a recipe. And ahhh you’ll get the splits and handstands! I know it!

Tbh, I don’t understand how people get so many email subscribers cuz that’s my lowest number. Then again, I feel like I’ve just stalled out on followers everywhere, so clearly I just don’t know what I’m doing lol. If you figure out the secret, let me know 😉

Good luck with all your goals! But you’re doing so much, please don’t get overstressed and burn out, I would miss visiting your blog and chatting with you!

    • I’m glad that I was able to get to quite a few of them, and hopefully will be able to achieve more of them in 2018!

I’m almost done with part 1 of 3 of my poetry collection which has me excited. Working hard on the flexibility ones but I know they will take time <3 You could bake for me and I'd cook for you, hehe 😉

Email subscribers are my lowest number as well… It's really hard to get them and I understand why. No one wants their inbox flooded with blog posts from ALL the bloggers. If I know any secrets I will of course, be willing to share.

I promise not to get burned out and stressed. If I'm not enjoying doing them, I won't be <3

Leave a comment! I love to discuss with you & will visit back as soon as I can!
